Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Soldiers Party

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a wide array of characters, and a thrilling plot including divine entities, evil spirits, and sinister influences growing in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Key plot points for the latest installment of the new season follow below.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

Episode 3 concluded with a major cliffhanger and introduced the first table of heroes who will separate from the main group to undertake their independent quest, separate from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table consists of Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

Considering 13 cast members, it was clear from the beginning that keeping everyone at one table would be unworkable.

This explains, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Overture, intertwining the personal journeys before splitting into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Strategists, and Questers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

According to the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who are drawn to a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven story mode where peaceful solutions are rare.

Initially, figures such as the hesitant healer the cleric might seem mismatched, but the developments of the latest installment make it clear why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

First, the group has a clear idea where to head next after a intense opening clash with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose death initiated the campaign’s events—exploited the enemy for his own means, entering Thjazi’s hideout, striking the character, and stealing all the powerful objects to auction.

Casimir then paid off his liabilities and fled to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each member has a specific drive to exit the urban setting:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, wants retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows the region and advises that it is a nasty location.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having resisted his family’s wishes to kill the fighter and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their reputation as key figures in House Halovar could enable the party enter areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, The fighter pledged a eternal obligation to The savior for his salvation and will now accompany him wherever.

Pursued by Authorities

In addition, all of them are hunted by the rulers that rule the city for a range of causes, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and The healer turned against House Halovar and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
  • The target is marked for death by the family.

This results in them no alternative but to head to the northern region in search of Casimir.

Future Episodes

From episode three’s Cooldown, we learn that the combat party won’t be around next week, leaving the rest of the cast members to assemble the Explorers and Schemers groups.

Viewers can anticipate finding out which adventurers will be in which group in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
